Cathy Rubin of New York (Author of Children’s books) interviews Llandudno’s Miss Alice and host of Alice Day, Ian Turner.

“Magic, beauty, color, amusement, character, intrigue, questions, excitement, puzzlement, amazement, fear, suspense, fun and a happy ending” are the reasons why Alice’s Adventure’s in Wonderland is still a classic today, according to Ian Turner, celebrity host of Llandudno, Wales’ Alice Day on May 4, 2012.

This is my favourite photograph of me as Miss Alice – I was 8 at the time and was arrested on the order of The Queen of Hearts for having too much fun – fortunately the Mad Hatter pleaded on my behalf and the card soldiers let me go! I had only been making bubbles and it even got into the Daily Post – Mum says she hopes it’s the first and last time I’ll ever be arrested!

This is me as the Dormouse for my sisters 9^th Birthday party – they kept putting me in my teapot!

It was taken in our kitchen at the Hilary Guest House in Llandudno.

Miss Alice’s Mum as the Mad Hatter on August 14^th 2011 at the Llandudno Carnival on the promenade! It might not be Alice herself but it’s worth a laugh! It was taken by the Mayor Cllr Greg Robbins.

Alice Liddell and Sisters on the Great Orme, Llandudno

Did you know? In the summer of 1864, Alice Liddell (Lewis Carroll’s inspiration for Alice in Wonderland) and her two sisters, Lorina (who inspired the Lory) and Edith (who inspired the Eaglet), posed for up to 10 hours a day while the distinguished English artist, Sir William Blake Richmond, created one of his most famous paintings, called “The Sisters.” The painting of the three Liddell sisters is set against the background of the Great Orme, Llandudno’s famous mountain. Alice was by then aged 12.

The picture was painted in one of the rooms at the back of the house and the background added later from a view from one of the windows. The three sisters were Edith on the left, Lorina in the centre and Alice on the right.
